FINANCIAL CONFLICT RESOLUTION IN MARRIAGE

Spread the love

Couples from time to time disagree over financial matters and it is one of the factors that may lead to separation or divorce if not properly handled.

Resolving conflicts in marriage is not such a big task if both parties are willing to talk about and fix up issues.

Keep the following in mind if you want to resolve financial conflicts amicably.

  1. Communication: One of the ways to have a healthy marriage is to constantly communicate your needs and desires to your significant other. When you understand each other’s point of view, it becomes easier for you both to resolve financial conflicts when they arise.
  2. Understanding your partner’s spending habit: If you want to effectively resolve conflicts in your marriage, try to put yourself in your partner’s shoes and understand their stand point instead of criticizing them. Your partner may be cautious before spending or be frivolous when it comes to money due to their background. When you eventually understand your partner’s spending habit, you will be willing to work out being accountable to each other when it comes to spending.
  3. Have guiding principles: To avoid financial conflict in marriage, you and your partner should come up with values and beliefs that are valuable to you both and agree on them. When you both share the same values and belief system, it becomes easier to resolve whatever conflicts you have because you will begin to see issues from the same standpoint with time.
  4. Get rid of past fear about money: You may have experienced scarcity of money as a child and the fear of not having enough if your partner spends frivolously may have you constantly nagging over your partner’s spending habit. Once you’re able to get rid of negative emotions about money, you’ll be able help your partner curb excessive spending and make wiser financial decisions.
