Children’s Day: Celebrating The Beauty Of Children

Spread the love

Children’s day is celebrated in Nigeria every May 27. It is a special day where we celebrate the beauty of children and their unique contribution to our society. It is a day that is dedicated to the recognition of children’s rights, their unique qualities and unlimited possibilities. It reminds the society that children must be protected, nurtured and empowered to become responsible and compassionate individuals. We use this celebration also to recognize how important children are in our lives, the joy they bring to our lives and how important their presence is to us.

Celebrating this day helps children believe in themselves, it boosts their self-esteem, through various activities, performances and interactions. The celebration encourage them to express themselves and embrace their uniqueness. They show off their talents through singing, dancing, painting or storytelling. When children appreciate their abilities and unique qualities, they gain confidence, which further improves their overall development.

They are the essence of our lives, they are proof that the world cannot do without them. Imagine a world without a child; it’d be empty right? The innocence of a child, their pleading face, especially when they did something wrong, curiosity and unmatched energy, their infectious laughter that is unfiltered, the pure joy on their faces can bring out any brooding person into their world. Their carefree attitude sometimes needs studying, they are just not bothered about anything and everything. Once a child sees something or someone to play with, every other thing becomes secondary to them even feeding at times or taking a nap. Their genuine curiosity and an open mind ought to inspire us to look at the world with new eyes and embrace the simple pleasures that we count as nothing.

If you look at the world through the eyes of a child, you’ll find out that you are missing out a lot through your endless worries and fears. The reason for this is simply not farfetched. It is because the world of a child has so much beauty, it is filled with beautiful imaginations, playful habits, and an “I don’t have anything to worry about” attitude. They have a deep-seated ability to create a whole new world using their imaginations from the scratch. From building towering castles to magic blankets and adventures in their make-believe lands, their imaginations know no bounds. Their unmatched creativity reminds us to let go of ourselves and embrace our own imaginations.

Whenever I watch children play in the rain, it brings back beautiful childhood memories and how good it used to be being carefree, not minding how heavy the rain was or how much cold I’d get later on. Our kids will just do something’s or make a statement or even dance and that memory will just walk us down our own memory lane informing us that we’ve once done something like that, and from that tiny memory, we wouldn’t even know when we’d smile.

Lyman Abbott said “ child is a beam of sunlight from the Infinite and Eternal, with possibilities of virtue and vice but as yet unstained.” They are indeed a gift to not just us but also those around us and the society at large. They always bring the best part of ourselves out each time we are with them, we just find ourselves playful and carefree sometimes, and we laugh out loud. Kids never fail to do that.

As a parent, guardian, Aunt, Uncle, or Older siblings, let’s create an environment that encourages these ones to be happy, lively, and full of fun especially on days like this this, let’s take time out of our busy schedules to appreciate the beauty that children bring into our lives. Let us join forces in making sure that we create a better society for them by providing them with access to education, healthcare, and other basic amenities.

Even when they get bullied in school or their environment, the way they handle it, their resilience is truly something to watch out for. They have an unwavering determination to overcome their obstacles, by fighting through it, they learn and grow from every experience. Their ability to bounce back with unconquerable spirit teaches us the importance of resilience in the face of adversity.

Children have an extraordinary capacity to love unconditionally and with no fear. Their affection is true and pure, it is untainted by judgment or expectations. Their love reminds us of the importance of nurturing our own relationships and embracing the fact that it’s ok to be vulnerable and that being vulnerable comes with us opening our hearts unconditionally.

Children have an innate wonder that allows them to marvel at the world’s simplest pleasures. From a blooming flower to a shining star, they find respect in all spheres of life. Watching them allow us to rediscover the wonders around us and it also remind us to appreciate the beauty of life’s smallest and even tiniest moments.

When we celebrate the beauty of children, we are not only honoring their remarkable qualities, but also inspire their steadfast spirit. They teach us to embrace innocence, bring out our own imaginations that have been kept hidden for a long time, cultivate resilience, embrace unconditional love, and experience wonder that we didn’t think existed.

Let us remember the joy they bring to our lives and try to keep the valuable qualities in us, always remember that they are watching and emulating us. Remember the words of James Baldwin that says ”children have never been good at listening to their elders but they never failed to imitate them.” We should always put it at the back of my mind that what we deposited in them is what they give out, the plant we sow in their lives is what germinate and bear fruits. So as we navigate the difficult stages of adulthood, let us never forget the beauty that lies in the hearts of children and their profound influence that they have in shaping our world.
